I need a li'l help n figureing out the year model of my 425,,gathering from the history of olds that i have read,,if the 425 was painted red,it was high comp engine.(as is mine) i am headed to the machine shop in a couple of hours wid the heads and intake,i can tell there has been sum port work, found sum #'s stamped on the front, v25 0602,,this is how they appear, except the V is not srait, its leaning to the left so that the rite side of it is vertical,,maybe an indication of an anglecut of 25,000th???? got an offy intake for it,but will need to get it cut to fit if this is the case..sorry,got sidetracked,,i have so many questions bout this engine,,i know it will be a tire shreader,,its goin n a 1948 chebby truck(lowered & tubbed wid a Trans Am front clip) with a turbo with a switch pitch converter,,there isnt a whole lot of numbers on the engine block,,plus i am a rookie when it comes to olds,,,just wanted to do it diff to give all my chevy buddies sumthin to cry bout,,,but i am finding the olds history an this engine in particular,,really fascinateing,i wood luv to kick a few of my buddies ole chevys in the butt with this one,,,#'s on the front of the block are 386525 A 1,,,,,rear by the dist,,3,under this is 71 with the snowflake emblem followed by CFD rite below it,,,,, the #'s on the heads are 383821,,,any help u can provide will be greatly appreciated!!!! looking forward to a great learning expieriance !!! be gentle,,i am a rookie!! lol,,thanks , DAVE

Hi Dave, enginecode 386525 code A block is a 1965 425, the c-heads code 383821 is 1965 400/425 code A heads on the right c-head there should be a stamped number (front of the engine passenserside) example NS123456 /425cid 370hp, this is the code to identified the engine. Not all red engines are high comp. i own a 1967 425 whit the low comp. 9.0:1 300hp and is red the diffrent color is the Toronado did have a metallic bleu high comp. 380hp engine. Most 425 1965 to 1967 (exept the toronado engine is 39 degree cam angle) do have the 45 degree cam angle, later 1967 425 and all other later olds engines did have the 39 degree cam angle Hope did help you a litle. Berend

Sounds like a cool project. I also like the 425. Not to may around and people really dont use them much. Got an pics. If its a 65 425 it would have come with the A heads. There should be a big letter my the # 1 and #8 sparkplug holes. You cant miss it! Also should be a flat spot with a code right at the #1 cylinder on the block. We need pics of the project please! LOL
