I have 69 400 engine with 122,000 miles, the previous owner stated the engine was rebuilt at 90,000. Engine runs good, good compression, complete from oil pan to intake, valve covers, fuel pump, distributor, wires, new spark plugs, flexplate, starter. I replaced this engine because I am not a fan of over square engines. What is a fair asking price? Thanks!

 

I have been getting $500.00 easily for the last couple of years using Craigslist. I am asking more for the same engines this year. My asking price now is $650.00 for a complete running engine. It usually takes some time for the right buyer to come along so you'll have to be patient and update your ad regularly. And you might want to sell the brackets separately but only once the motor is sold. You can expect an extra $125.00 for the brackets. You'll also get an additional $75.00 to $100.00 for an original air breather.

Good luck in your sale, but I have to say $650 may be optimistic unless someone really just wants the crank and heads.

And yes, I agree $650.00 is rather high. But the local guys upgrading there mid eighties Cutlass do pay these prices. Or at least close to it.
I sold a core to a guy in Mississippi last week and he paid $300.00 after drove three hours to get it. It still needs to be rebuilt.
I've gotten $600.00 for a running motor recently and that's what is prompting me do do a price increase. I used to sell them for a flat $500.00 and they sold fairly quick.
But remember, it takes time to sell at these higher prices and you'll have a lot of calls and silly questions. LOL

 

I hope you can get your new asking prices , it makes sense the late 70' and 80's guys want the Olds engines. The economy has been going well for 2016 and doesn't look to be slowing anytime soon.

I find it tough to pay more than the $120 for the last 76 Olds 350. I paid $400 for a set of rebuilt #6 heads. The BBO price around here is right inline with what your are asking, $700 and up for 455's here.

 

I got a 76 delta 88 with 59000 miles on it for $500.00, a rebuildable core 455 goes for about $400.00 in Montana, i just lucked out with finding the whole car.
