What heads to choose for 455?
I am building a hot street car that i want to get at least 460 horse out of and i am just wondering what would be better bang for the buck here. I have been looking for a pair of edelbrock heads for the 455. I hear that they are the best flowing aluminum heads on the market, but 1700-1800 is very pricey. C heads are also worthy candidates for porting and valve jobs but prices add up. there are refinished ported C heads on the internet ranging from 500-1100 dollars, using the same size valves as the edelbrocks. are heavy port jobs on the c heads that cost anywhere from 900 to 1,000 bucks or higher better then the edelbrocks? as in flow (can not find flow charts of high end ported C heads). Or would it be better to just spend the extra money on the edelbrocks? Obviously the weight loss would be a great benefit thanks for the help.

An additional expense on those Edelbrocks are the rocker arms, pushrods, and bolts. I have them(Edelbrocks) on mine and my engine guy says they are a decent head as a starting point. He likes to enhance everything so he did a little porting and a valve job but you could just bolt em on, and get the correct rockers(Actually Ford 351 Winsor) and pushrods.
You can get J heads for free (seen a bunch being given away on ROP), and you will easily make your goal. Get any cylinder head that you obtain, rebuilt.
Do NOT run old used junk.
