What engine do I have? 396021 F

When I bought my parts car it had a good running engine so I put it into my 65 jetstar. Seller told me it was a 68 455 out of a Delmont 88. The casting above the396021 F, I looked at the head and it has a C on it, I could not get any other numbers because the power steering pump bracket is covering it up. I suppose i will have to take it off and is there any other numbers I need to find and where?

What does a C head mean?

Thanks

C heads were used on all 1967-69 big block Olds motors except the W-30 and Hurst/Olds 455s. The casting number is a 455 block, so if the heads are original, it's a 68-69 455.

Dennis many people consider the c heads as the best flowing ( aside from the d's and edelbrock aluminums) and being a 68-69 you had decent compression, it could have the good crank, I think all things being equal you did well, it has the boss for the 4 speed, etc etc etc

I'm not complaining especially since I bought the parts car for $450, sold the bumpers for $300, mirror for $75, kept the hood, put the dash in great condition and air conditioning plus the engine and TH400 tranny in my jetstar then sold the parts car for $400. However doing it all over again I would have kept the parts car and made a driver of it. Is there a way to tell if it has been rebuilt cause it don't smoke at all, even start up.
