Looking to get a new torque converter for my 1971 Cutlass convertible.
What stall would you experts suggest? The car is not a daily driver. Just something to have fun with. Also not having much luck finding Olds specific converters. Any downside to Chev style converters?
specs are as follows.
turbo 400
3.55 rear
stock height 14" tires
60 over 455 with procomp heads.
10.25 to 1 compression. cam from Mark with 234/244 at .050 duration.

Hughes Performance makes Olds specific converters and you can get them from most all the perfomance places - Jegs, Summit, etc. - heck, it's even on Amazon.

The 2500 RPM converter I have is GM25-BPO, which is the Olds threaded lug style:

With that cam your probably going to need a converter in the 2800+ range. I've had good luck with Hughes also with the HD BPO versions of off the shelf converters. You can also have PTC or any other Converter company build a quality one with the HD internals and anti ballon plate specifically for your setup for around 4-5 bills to your door.

 

I second a standard 2500 stall. You dont want any more than that for your application. As mentioned Summit and Jegs have several choices. Hughes is a high quality unit. I like TCI. Im running a TCI "Breakaway" in my 68. 400HP G block, TCI TH400, with 308s and 15" tires. 391s are next. with an GV OD.

You cant install a "Chevy" converter on to a Olds flexplate. Why would you, it won't fit?
