is supposed to be a 69.

it has not been fired for many years but it turns so its not completly dead :P

Considering the scarcity of Olds big blocks over there and the completeness of the engine (looks to have everything except air cleaner) I say buy it. Good luck!

The VIN derivative confirms it's a 69 block. The divorced choke on the intake is also indicative of a late 60s engine. The heads should be "C" heads. The A/C compressor is not a 69 compressor - that would have been the long and heavy A4 compressor. The R6 compressor you have is from a later engine. I've also never seen an idler pulley below the A/C compressor before.

Here in British Columbia there were five 72 , 73 Toronados complete cars. I couldn't get $500 each for them. Four of them just got squashed. I saved mine, the best one and there are 1 or 2 455's cut out sitting on front drive axels that no one seems to want either. Unfortunately , it will take till they are all gone before someone will be wanting them.

When you're dealing with big blocks, or rather any Oldsmobiles, torque is king. It is more important than horsepower. Some buick 455's were rated at over 500 ft/lbs. stock. So you might want to put your goals in terms of torque rather than HP since big blocks usually don't turn huge HP numbers.

That engine with a stock rebuild will be more than 300 HP.
