Starter for 72 455

I need to replace my starter and it is not original, 1109072 9C13 Delco Remy US2 which is a 79 403 high torque starter. I think I want a 1108387. Does that jive with common wisdom?

I always search Rockauto first. The Delco they have listed has below part numbers too:

Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 88864461, 336-1873A

Thanks. I'm trying for an OEM part number so it's date and code correct. I will go look there.

If I understand you correctly you want an OEM starter for your 72 455? Try graygracy, a seller on ebay. I've made a number of purchases from him and no problem. Message him if its not listed. Ask him to provide picture of starter and stamping number/date prior to purchase; he will glady comply.

Hope this helps.

I'll try to go through my starter cores. Is there a date range you'd like to stay within Koda?

TNS, I'll check with him.

John, let me make sure that number is right before you dig, but date code of March of 72 or earlier is good. 4A car.

Based off some number looking, the 1108389 was on 1970 455 all, and the 1108387 was on 71-72 455. Not sure of the mechanical difference of these. Date code would need to be 2C## or earlier for an 04A car.

I second this...I bought my date code correct 1108333 from him. Great to deal with.

The crazy 442 man is sending me a good core, and I'll have it rebuilt in town. I'll keep you posted.
