Sealant for Factory Shim?

Hello all,

I'm using pn 404896 for head gaskets. The service manual says to brush both sides with No. 1050026 sealer. Is this still what everyone is using? Engine sealants have come a long way since 71.

Practically anything can be used as a steel-shim head gasket sealer. Any commercially-available gasket sealer, (NOT RTV Silicone gasket MAKER) aluminum spray paint, even cheap brush-top pipe thread sealant.

The important part is not the sealer used, it's getting the head and block deck SMOOTH AND FLAT.
