Rochester 4GC 1965 442 Carburetor Replacement for Original 7025150
Hello,
I have a 4 speed 65 Post 442 that has the wrong carburetor on it for the year. I know that the original Rochester 4 Jet carbs were numbers 7025150 or 151. As these were a one year only carb and very hard to find, I was wondering what the next best carb would be in the Rochester 4GC/4Jet model? This has the original 400 ci BBO engine and I have the original air cleaner, so I want to stay with the 4GC model so everything fits under the hood. I have what I think is a 7025055 model 4GC that was on the car when I got it. Does anyone have an idea if I should just run this till I find the Unicorn of carbs or is there a Rochecster 4GC / 4 Jet that would work better for for this engine? If anyone has a 7025150 carb for sale, let me know the condition and price.
Thanks,
Steve

Reason: additional info
Check with oldspackrat. Scott recently purchase a large collection of 1964 Cutlass/442 parts and some 1965. He's posted some pictures over on facebook if your on the Oldsmobile sites there.
John
Thanks!. I sent Oldspackrat a PM, we'll see what turns up. Anyone else with an idea of a suitable replacement for the 7025150 carb in a Rochester 4 Jet? Let me know what number carb I should be looking for.
Thanks
The fourth digit of the carb number is the model year, so yes, they are one-year-only. Keep in mind that 1965 was the only model year that the BBO used the 4GC.
Thanks Gerald and Joe. I guess my question is, is there another 4GC carb that has the same CFM and jet sizes for the 65 400 engine? Will any 4GC carb work fine on the BBO engines or is there a specific carb number I should be looking for until I can get a correct one? I do have a 7025055 that came off a 330 engine. Just not sure it will be the right size for the BBO. Thanks for the help
I would think that a carb from a 59 thru 64 Olds 394 should be pretty close to a 65 400 carb as far as CFM , calibration , etc .
There's only a 6 cubic inch difference .
Thanks everyone for the information. The intake manifold on my 400 is for a square-bore carb, so I would gather it had a 4 GC on it. I am running a 67 4 speed Quadrajet that I had with an adapter plate from spread to square,so I can move her around. I will check out the 394 carbs that Charlie mentioned as i think they would be a good fit. What about a 1965 4GC off of one of the fullsize cars that had a 425 in it?
Thanks again,
Steve
Great! Found a rebuilder on Ebay from a 65 fullsize # 7025050. At least this will give me something to start with until I can find the original number carb.
Later '65 442 came with q-jet, my August built '65 came with one. http://www.442bro.com/ has the info.
I was under the impression that "model changeover" was in July or August. That would mean that 66's would be produced for showrooms and new car introduction. Some things I read were interesting, but some was pure crap. I will go back when I have time and read more.
So just to tie up this thread, I was able to buy a 1965 Rochester 4GC, Number 7025050 that was found on the 65 425 engine. Found one on *Bay in rebuild-able condition, bought a carb kit from Mikes carbs and set about cleaning and rebuilding. It cleaned up really nice and looked like it had never been apart. Will get it put in place in the next couple of weeks and see how it runs. Have the Quadra-Jet all dialed in now, so I'll leave it till I start the clean-up of the engine.
I too have been having issues with my carb. I think I have a 442 carb on my Starfire. Am I correct to have understood that the 4GC carb for the 65 442 had ports in the front bowl to change the jets? That is what mine has and I've not seen another one like it. Mine is on my 65 Starfire and was on it when I bought it. Of course the tag is missing so no way to know for sure except those unusual ports.
Ok, so we are both right.
I am speaking only about the design of the 1965 442 carburetor, and the obvious differences, that set it apart from other years.
Well I think I bought a pig in a poke. Like this guy I found a carb on Ebay. The tag number 7025255 shows to be from an AC optioned, 1965 fullsize Olds. Cool. My car doesn't have AC but will..So I bought it and didn't notice something strange until it got here. Most Rochester carbs have the large nut on the fuel intake where the filter is, then the large nut has a 3/8" threaded hole. This one does not. A 3/8" nipple screws right into the carb. The markings said they took it off of a 1965 Delta 88 which would be correct. Everything else looks the same even down to the funky vacuum hose extension..I have what is thought to be a 1965 442 carb on my car because it has the ports in the front. No tag but they say it's the only year that had that. But that carb has the filter in the carb. Anyone have any idea what this is? I know the tag could be put on any carb so not even a guarantee that is right. Thanks, John

4GC somewhat a dog - if you want to unlock the performance of the 400, upgrade to 600- 650cfm. edelbrock performer #1406 is a great choice. just made that move on a 65 4 speed im restoring. also out is the edelbrock AVS2 that has an anular jet on primary (similar to injector) that looks great too. both are square bore and will fit stock intake without kit, and have electronic choke.

feedback was 4jet a dog, so went with edelbrock performer with electronic choke which has been ok. wanted to use the new edelbrock AVS2 but got mixxed opinions...

I just found a pair of these 4bbl. carbs. They are missing the manufacture tabs, but sifting around for them. One was stored better than the other, but there better of the two looks as though it was rebuilt, then shelved. My # is 904-624-5570, names Dennis. (If you have seen the one carb for sale on ebay asking $2499+shipping is in rehab condition.) Nor would I fathom asking so much. Can send photos at request. No reasonable offer will be refused.
Thanks for the update and reply to this thread. I was able to locate a 7025150 carb this past Spring and sent it out for a rebuild. The only problem was the plating shop they use was closed down by the EPA the day my carb was to be sent for the plating. I had them send it back to me rebuilt without the plating, as I didn't want it getting lost while they looked for another plater. It looks great all polished and clean, they even ran it on a test bench for initial set-up. Just not Dichromate colored. It is under the air cleaner, so I'll run it for now.
