Rochester 2 bll replacement.

My carburator on my 425 seem to be a little worn out.
Any tip on replacement carb with a direct fit ?

Have seen Rockauto has "Autoline" rebuild carbs.

Another question about 425 engine from 1965:have seen
that a 360 hp model was available with 4 bll carb, are the carb
and manifold the only thing that are different ?

Thanx.

What does "worn out" mean?
Is it mechanically worn, or does it just need a rebuild?
You will do much better rebuilding your original carburetor than rolling the dice on a replacement from thousands of miles away unless it has mechanical problems, such as bad throttle shaft wear.

It depends.
In 1965 they made a high compression 2-bbl 425 and a low compression 2-bbl 425.
If you have the high compression engine, then, Yes.

Shipping charges to Europe will be far greater for an intake manifold than for a carburetor rebuild kit, though.

I have new gaskets, acc pump and other parts replaced from a "jiffykit"
but the carb have some throttle shaft wear.

The car seller said that this car have an high compression engine
and the aircleaner had a label marked "ultra high compression".

Must learn to se if this is correct with the cars vin code.

While the air cleaner's markings are encouraging, they are not conclusive. It would have been easy for someone to have changed the air cleaner at some point over the past 50 years.

There is no indication in the VIN as to the compression of the engine, and no way to ascertain it with certainty from any external characteristics of the engine.

There should be an engine number stamped into a flat surface on the front of the passenger side head.
If the number is Mxxxxxx, you have a 2bbl engine with a 10.25:1 compression ratio.
If the number is MxxxxxxE, you have a 2bbl engine with an 8.3:1 compression ratio.
If the number is MxxxxxxL, you have a 2bbl engine with a 9:1 compression ratio.
Note, however, that the head may have been changed over the past 50 years, and may be from a different engine.

If you have already done a rebuild, then the question is whether there is any perceptible play in the throttle shaft - not whether someone else told you there was play, but whether there actually is.

Why do you believe that the carburetor isn't working properly?

Thanks for answer . Yes,many thing could happen on 50 years and a label
on a aircleaner can be changed easy.

Checked the number on the passengers head and it is :Mxxxxxx

I was mostly curious which alternative carburators who are avalible,my car
runs pretty good now and the choke works just fine. The carburator rebuild
kit came from Hygrade.

Some earlier owner had mount wrong gasket between carb and base plate
who result in a major vacum leak and tried to spray some rust protection body spray to fix this.(was hard to clean off) There was a couple different
gaskets in the Hygrade kit.

Yes,i could feel a play in the throttle shaft but i think this can wait.

Okay, it should be a high compression engine.

Good.

A QuadraJet will give you more power, and will probably give you better mileage, so long as you drive conservatively.

That's one of the main companies that makes a lot of these kits.

Yes, each kit can fit a number of different carburetors. It is very important to select the correct gasket.

If there's too much play, it will create a rough and inconsistent idle, but will not affect driving.

Another question about the 2 jet idle mixture screws.
Have looked in olds chassies manual but could not find wich direction the screws work.
Turning clockwise = leaner mixture ?? Or ritcher ?? Can be good to know in future.
