Removing Gallery plugs???
Removing Gallery plugs???
I have a 455 toro block that I have had hot tanked, magnafluxed, and pressure tested.Everthing checks out great and the block looks new. I removed the front gallery plugs no sweat, but the rear plugs are stuck big time. I put a torch on the outer driverside rear plug and used an air impact wrench on it but it did not move and the allen type head started to strip. I didn't heat it too much because I was afraid I would hurt the block. The inner plug is some wierd square type head that I don't think I have a wrench for. I put kroil inside and out on both of them 2 days ago and left it. Any suggestions???
Those plugs need to be drilled out and removed with square tapered extractors. You will probably have to drill them to at least 3/8. You will need square sockets to drive them.
Seems like a big pain , but this will work. Also the oil galleries will need to be cleaned again. Thanks Milan

Is the Allen head plug on the back, not down in a hole? You might try brazing something to it that you can get some torque on. Either a section of the allen wrench, or even a bolt.
Then for the other piece, here's a thread talking about the plug with a square hole in it.
