rear oil plug 455???

rear oil plug 455???

So today I removed the frost plugs and the oil galery plugs...so the one in the back behind the small frost plug has a square for a tool to remove it....any idea what size???

I made a tool out of an old head bolt. Just time and patience on a grinder. If I remember right it's a bit smaller than a 3/8 drive. Could be wrong but others will chime in.

Ya...little bigger than 1/4 drive but a little smaller than a 3/8

5/16 square


Hard steel punch and a 8-pt socket are effective.

Or, a real tool

Try to get the 3/8 drive version so it fits in the hole it has to pass thru

I looked locally and struck out. Chris suggested the same one to me and I finally purchased one through ebay. It might mean putting your project on hold for a week, but using the correct tool was really slick. Took just a few seconds to remove that plug with it. I don't know how long I monkeyed around trying to use other things to get it out
