Hi classic olds, another newbie question. This intake is completely unmarked. It’s polished hi rise, doesn’t seem cheap but who knows. I’m normally an Internet sleuth but don’t have any numbers to work with. It might not clear the hood so don’t know if I will keep it. If it’s quality I might as well. Thanks again
Ryan
Actually, it looks like the now-defunct Professional Products intake. Note that you can just see the ribbing at the bottom of the plenum in this photo.
The photo I posted was from the Speedway Motors website. Apparently you could buy them polished with the lettering already ground off. As I said, no longer available.
The intake is a Professional Products Crosswind. It was their version of the Air Gap intakes made by Edelbrock. I don't think Edelbrock had an Air Gap design for BB Olds motors at that time and they stepped in to produce one. The company name and product info is actually on the underside of the intake. It was available in regular finish or polished. I had this one on the 455 in my 1979 Hurst for about a year before I removed it. The intake is over 7 inches tall and wouldn't fit under the stock hood. I had to go with a cowl induction hood which I didn't like. The car was all stock except for the drivetrain so it was hard to have that sleeper look with a cowl induction hood. I replaced the intake with an Edelbrock Performer and put the stock hood back on. From a performance point of view, I found the intakes to be about the same.
All correct, that intake is similar to the Edelbrock Air Gap except for the difference in cross sectional area from the plenum to the flange. The Edelbrock is more consistent. The Procomp/Professional Products manifold actually increases the cross section at the flange. Not the best arrangement, especially when using EFI.
