Poly Locks - recommended brand?

Hey guys,

I've heard the lock nuts for Comp Cam Magnum rocker arms are subpar. So, I intend to replace them with poly locks.

Shoot some suggestions for brand, size, expected cost of new poly locks for this application:
  • 455 block
  • E heads
  • Comp Cam Magnum rocker arms (roller tip)
    • 3/8" stud mount
    • steel
  • pushrod guideplates
  • pushrods (to be determined) - will be hardened
Thanks

My dad has the Comp magnums in his Vista Cruiser and has run them as is for 5 years or so. I don't think there's a problem with them...at least if there is I haven't heard about it. I just installed a set in my convertible 455, I hope they are ok...people I have ask about them say they work great, and they fit under stock VC's.

I bought the roller tip rocker kit from prw and the poly locks came with the kit . My friends sbc he runs that magnum kit for his set up and they would get loose eventually. I don't know if it's from constant abuse but it happened a few times then he went to the poly locks no issues since.

I don't think there's much discussion about /which/ polys to use. Just pick a set. Some are slightly different heights, which can be a big deal when using stock valve covers and full roller rockers. For the roller-tip comps, any of the available ones will work just fine.

Thanks for the info, guys. I decided to stick with Comp Cams magnum stuff and bought 4602-16 poly locks off Amazon for $40 shipped.

Update: Well, the new valve covers (with baffles), from Inline Tube, do not clear the poly locks I bought - Comp Cams Magnum 4602.

The roller tip rockers are mounted on 3/8" studs and the hardened pushrods ending up being 9.650" long. The poly lock is 1.300" tall.

Anyone running a similar setup that has a shorter poly lock? By the way, I do not want to use a spacer.

Look in the Comp catalog, I believe they list one that's roughly an inch long.

You can buy spacers or I have bought the extra thick valve cover gaskets.
I have heard some have double up on the gaskets.
Or search for taller valve covers.

Yes, you're right. The change from 1.30" to 1.00" = 4.8/16" difference, which will be extremely close to the clearance I need (measured). I ordered a set online and will receive them soon. If they don't work then I'm going back to the lock nuts that came with the rocker arms.

get the "Rocket" or "Fel-pro" thick valve cover gaskets. They are about 1/4" thick.

I have the Fel-Pro VS13403T rigid gasket which is 1/4" thick. I counting on it to help with the spacing
