Parts source recommendation for 394 engine rebuild

Dear engine wizards,

I am looking into a complete rebuild of my 394. It is still running but want to have the feel of when the car/engine was new.
I am hoping to keep it as original as possible with 4GC carb. Maybe Offy performance intake if available for a reasonable price.

My question is:
Do you know if there are huge differences in part quality from different vendors? So far I have found only a few sources at all.

I´m considering Egge, Kanter, Falcon Global, Old Parts Source and Ross Racing (what´s the situation today, read some negative reviews here not long ago). Ross is probably also the most expensive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ville.

Egge or Falcon Global are fine for a stock re-build .
If you want to " kick it up a notch " then Ross Racing .
The only performance manifolds for a 394 that I am aware of are the " Offy " dual four and 3X2 manifolds .

Thank you for your reply.

Do you think there are many manufacturers behind these kits or do they actually all come from the same factory (overseas)?
Egge is asking 3500$ for a kit while Falcon is selling a Deluxe kit for 1700$. Would I be getting better value for my money from Egge?
You wouldn´t suggest Kanter or Fusick (do they even have kits)?

What about hunting down the needed parts piece by piece, is it even possible? An Iskenderian cam kit etc.

What parts have you used?

If I was doing it I would probably try to source everything separately. I am pretty certain that Egge makes their own pistons and I have ordered pistons from Kanter before and they were Egge pistons. Rings should be available from Hastings, bearings most likely from Clevite or Federal Mogul. I try to avoid "white box" parts as much as possible. I have also had good luck finding "old stock" name brand parts on E-bay. There is a brand new GM 394 cam on Ebay right now for instance. I think you can get better quality parts if you are willing to search around from different sources. Your machine shop should also be able to help you with this.

The other thing is that even though it drags the entire progress out you really need to disassemble the engine and see what needs to be done with it before you order any parts.
