Hello,
I have some leaks from my carburator 4bbl Rochester do I've ordered gasket set from rock auto. I've driven the car a few kilometers since I bought it recently. It drives fine. From what I know the carburetor was rebuilt some time ago.
Did someone make a mistake installing gasket?
In my set from RA I found a proper gasket. Am I right?
Have a nice day
Greetings from Poland
Johny
The first picture gasket is wrong, the second one looks correct. When working on carbs I never throw away the old gaskets until finding the matching one in the kit, the other non-matching gaskets are removed from the work bench.
Here's a pic of when I rebuilt mine. You don't give the carb # but it looks the same as mine. The old gasket looks correct. Another problem I ran into was the throttle plates were getting hung up on the gasket. Over the years the dies to stamp them are wearing out or changing. You can see that with your's where it left a ridge at the openings when the parts got pressed together against the gasket.

Using a gasket like the old one will in my opinion cause Edyta dirty air to enter the carburetor and air leaks.
I have no experience with Rochester carburetors, hence I am looking for answers.
I'm sure Rochester made those gaskets that way for a reason. There were multiple gaskets that came in the kit to cover the different car manufactures and years of the cars. It probably won't run correctly if you use the wrong one, but you can go ahead and do what you think is best.
