Hello everyone i just bought a 68 chevelle 4 door with a 425 olds engine and i'm going to pull the engine out of it and put it in my 59 studebaker lark and what i plan to do is change the cam and intake manifold and looking for something with a little rough idle and some slight mid range power rather then just low end. Going to use a 350 turbo trans with a shift kit and 355 gears. It has the 45 degree cam bank angle so what am i looking at for a cam for this setup? Also looking to use a performer intake or is their something better? Thanks Steve Uncasville Ct. 06382

 

I think a Torker intake would work better for your situation, they aren't hard to find either.

 

I always thought one of those old Larks would make a great sleeper. Keep us posted with your progress. A SBC would probably be an easy fit but this thing will scream with the 425. What kind of rearend are you going to use? It will need a new one for sure.

 

Just make sure it is a 45* engine. If it has .842 lifters it is a 45* engine or if it is a .921 lifter than is is a 39* engine. Seams '67 is an exception.
Just look at all the cam venders and pick what you want and make sure you order the correct bank angle. Also make sure you degree it in. Get a good timming chain and gear set. Cloyes is the only one I have found to be very accurate. The others vary quiet a bit and degreeing is mandatory.

Thanks for the info right now the lark has a 360 mopar with a 8 three quarter rear so that should work fine they are pretty beefy was going to put my 355 chevy motor but want something a little different back in the day we ran nailhead buicks, caddys
olds, chevys so this will perk it up a bit and most people don,t like the mopar in it so
we will show them some real power. Back in 1966 we bought a brand new 425 olds and put it in a modified oval track car and it was way lighter than a big block chevy
and the thing was real quick but we had to work on the oiling system to get things right outside returns from valve covers to pan and restricktors to slow the oil down
because it liked to suck the pan dry. Been away from them to long so trying to find the right cam. Steve
