Offenhauser valve covers on a ´63 394?

I want to put Offy valve covers on my ´63 starfire 394 and have this question. Since all 394´s after 1960 has a pcv valve in the cover and the Offy´s hasn´t, shall I just use breathers instead? The reason I ask is because my car had ´60 covers (no pcv) on a ´62 engine when I bought it and the engine had serious breathing problems, it pushed oil through the filler cap.

Very thankful for answers!

/Jon

I have a rebuilt '62 394 and used NOS Edelbrock valve covers. These covers did not have any holes in them and I refused to drill or modify them to accept a PCV system - kind of the same situation you are in. I drilled a hole in the valley pan and made a downdraft tube from a '59 394 I stripped out. Slight modifications were made as far as bending the tube to run towards the bottom of the car

It worked great, but I also used a finned aluminum valley pan. So I had to drill the hole as well as grind down some fins as the down draft flange was in the way
