Normal oil temprature 425 engine.

Have anybody measured the normal oil temprature when driving ? I should make a gasket
to the oilpump cover and the gasket material i,m looking at have 120 C / 248 F as a limit.

I have used common writing paper as a gasket on the oil pump cover with no problems. I was at the time looking for anything that would provide a seal but not give very much total clearance, gear to cover plate. I admit that I was using a thicker than stock bottom plate with a ground flat mating surface. The stock paper gasket is about 0.010" I think, so just find something paper based, not cork, about 6 to 12 thousandths thick, provided the gears do not stick out above the pump case surface. I have never seen them protrude beyond the pump case surface; they have always been below that surface. Oil temperature is not an issue on that gasket.

Ok Jim , ordred a nos Melling rebuild kit K-22F because the gears were worn and these stick out a little from the housing. There was a gasket in the Melling kit but it have a little damage of the gears in the box. But it measured 0,3 mm so i think i should try a 0,010" who are close ( 0,25 mm )

You do need some clearance, gears to cover plate. I would measure that in several places. On oil pumps that I have rebuilt, I have seen that clearance vary 2 or more thousandths of an inch across the pump housing, side to side, front to back. Since you state the gears stick out from the housing, you may want to use a slightly thicker gasket material to ensure you do have adequate clearance. I would be more than happy to see 0.006" to 0.008" minimum total clearance.

I have bolt on the cover with the damage gasket and the gears runs nice and i can also feel
a free play in the gearshaft. I looked in the Olds manual and it says free play of 0,0025" up to 0,0065"
and that should be 0,06 mm to 0,16 mm .

Trying to measure the freeplay in the shaft and it looks like 0,10 mm to 0,15 mm ( 0,0039" to 0,0059" )
so maybe it,s best with a 0,3 mm gasket similar to the one i tested with now so i got clearence.

If you are not in a big rush just call Melling. They will send you a gasket in the mail. Or order another kit and send that one back as a defect.
