Currently have the transmission/drive shaft out for a refresh. While I'm in there I decided to replace the fuel line and return with SS lines. I'm thinking of doing body mounts as well. Is it easier to get the fuel line/return over the rear shock mount (near the end point of the tank) when the passenger side body is lifted to replace the body mounts?
Looks like when my father in law had the fuel tank replaced....someone cut the hard lines over the passenger shock mount and replaced them with rubber.
From my personal experience, yes, it is easier. The fuel lines on my '68 4-4-2 convertible were shot and we pondered how to replace them while doing out body-on restoration as we couldn't reach or run that certain area with the body in place. What we did was loosen the body mount bolts and use a transmission jack with a piece of plywood against the underside of the trunk bed (gas tank removed) to lift the back of the body just high enough to get the new fuel lines in place and secure the fuel line fastener to the frame at that location. We had the car on a lift so we had to be careful not to dump it off of the lift at the front due to a shift in the center of gravity from slightly lifting the body from the rear but it worked for us.
