Need help please
Hi, I just bought a 1967 oldmobile cutlass coupe, 330 2barrel carb. I'm not sure if its a big block or small ? I'm not mechanically fit. And I'm sure if I'm on the right forum to discuss this?? But is it possible to drop in a bigger engine? And if so? What choices do I have? Thanks guys

Thanks for the congrats, we'll eventually I'd like to make it into a cruiser, but with power and not a gas guzzler if that's doable ? And if I do drop in a bigger engine? Do I change out the tranny or driveshaft? I also have pics of my new ride but I don't know how to put them on here, please help and give me ideas of what you guys think

Headers are really not cost effective for a SBO and your model year because the choices are limited. More power will equal from minimally less to way less fuel economy in most cases. What is your budget to upgrade as this will dictate your options.
In most cases, if you are going to change engines, new motor mounts are always a good idea unless the ones in there are relatively new.

Well I'm looking to spend 5 grand on the motor if it Cost that much, cheaper would be nice too, like I said I'm not mechanically fit so I don't know if 5 grand would even be enough? But I'm willing to go more if have too. So what will you do to the motor ? I was thinking to chrome it up, but how would I go about doing it?

Define "not mechanically fit"? Do you have tools. How does your engine run now? If you plan on paying someone to upgrade your car, it will easily surpass your $5k budget rapidly.
If you can live with the power it currently has, I would upgrade to a 4 barrel carb and manifold, dual exhaust, and then just concentrate on maintenence and personalization. After that I'd just enjoy it.

Bring it me with 5 large and I will make it very happy :-)
I have a rebuilt 403 being tested in an '85 442, which would wake that car right up. I could sell that motor for $3500... Just got it in and running last summer. Runs great.
Don't discount that 330... it's probably a 9:1 compression if it's a 2-bbl.
You could re-do it, but the same money thrown at a 403 or 425/455 will yield more cajones.

Thanks oldcutlass, I do have tools and I do little stuff, check oil change filters, that kind of stuff. But I'm not sure what kind of 4 bbl I should get or manifold? Is there a specific one I should get? For the 4bbl there's 500, 600,650 or 750? There's choices and numbers? But not sure what's better? The 750?

I would get a stock cast iron or an Edelbrock Performer (a stock replacement but a lot lighter). A Rochester 4V carb of the 67 vintage, which may require a linkage change if I remember right. If you go the Performer route you can also run an Edelbrock carb, I would recommend the AVS series around a 600 CFM. You probably have a 2 speed switch pitch trans, so you need to make sure that is operating correctly.
If it does not have a dual exhaust on it yet, you can convert your single to duals very easily at a local muffler shop, with mufflers of your choice.

Welcome. If all you're looking for is a comfortable cruiser, the 330 is a nice place to start. If you have your heart set on something larger, any other Olds V8 from 1964-1990 bolts in. Your Cutlass is virtually identical to the 1967 442, which came with a 400 motor. The 425 or 455 are externally identical to the 400 and drop right in. Where you go is totally up to your desires and checkbook.
