I see a pair of 'F' code heads for sale. Condition reported as good. You should be able to bolt them on and they'll run fine. Date code 106. Springs set for W-30 automatic cam,which I understand is the same cam as the 455/365 automatic transmission. I asked if the seats were machined for unleaded gas. The response was the car was running the majority of the time on "Cam 2" race gas. What is the effect of using this type of gas on the valve seats? The seller informed ne the "Cam 2" is leaded so the effect on the valve seats was none? Is it possible to run the heads on premium unleaded fuel or do I have to install new valve seals designed for premium unleaded gas since the seller doesn't know what valve seats are installed?


I will as usual appreciate your help on the seats and the springs set for au automatic W-30 cam.

The seats should be fine and work fine with premium fuel. Its always "buyer beware" when making a big purchase like this! You didnt mention the asking price? The last set i sold - in order to satisfy the customer - I disassembled the heads and had them sonic tested for cracks and gave the test report to the customer. He chose to reassemble the heads himself or have valve job and planed before installing on his car. I always want a "head man" to go over or through as used set before i install them. MOO

You'll be fine without hardened seats, unless you plan to use your car to tow a camping trailer across the country.

I agree, as mentioned above, that I wouldn't spend big money on heads unless they have documentation passing a recent pressure test. It's not an expensive test to run for a person who typically wants $3k+ for a pair of heads. I'd also be curious to see how many valve jobs have been done, if the valves have been sunk as a result, etc... at that point you will be replacing the seats regardless.
