Need forged pistons for a 400

I need a set of forged pistons for a 1968 400 out of my 442. I am looking for .030 or .040 oversized pistons. The TRW or Speedpro part number that my machinist gave me is L2321 .030. He said the warehouse that supposedly had them can not find them and it will be 3 or 4 weeks to get some made. Anybody know where I can find some pistons sooner than that?

Hi Chris, where did you get that part number??

I had a 100% stock '68 442 here recently with some L2346F pistons and assumed them to be correct??

Bore is 3.870" +.030"!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Maybe the C.R. is the difference in the 2 part number's, but I do have a new set of the L2346F+030's here presently with the Speed-Pro ring set!

Gary,

Just saw the picture. Not sure how I missed it before. Send me a PM with a price on Monday and I will get back to you either way. Thanks!

This may be worth checking into-you may bore the 400 block .057 and use 350 Olds pistons. (W-31) You can have the block sonic checked and see if it will take the bore or not. They will work with your rods as far as wrist pin height. But I'm not an Olds motor builder.

The 350 Olds pistons have a different pin height. The '68/69 Olds 400 uses the same pin height as the 455.
I think the 2321's are not the ones for the 68 400
I'm not to sure about the 2346's, but I have not done to much research.
You can bore the early 65 to 67 400 block and use the 350 Olds pistons.

64Rocket, you are correct on the 68-69 400, the longer stroke is that of the 455. That said, it actually made that motor a lesser performer compared to the 65-67 short stoke 400 the can be bored .057 and use 350 pistons. Thanks for the corrected info.
