My 488
My 488
So I've written this post a good half dozen times and every time when I'm almost does I get interrupted, and end up shutting my computer off and lose everything...At any rate I will give it another go... Maybe someone will get to read it this time!
I'm only going to go by memory here as the build sheet to my motor is buried somewhere else and I'm much to lazy right now to go look for it! The motor was built by Ken Murray (Kens Kustoms) a well know local builder. All the assembly was done at a separate shop.
-455 block out of a 74 Delta 88
-CP Pistons
-CP BBC rods
-Eagle crank
-Harland roller rockers
-Comp cams custom grind (I never did get the cam spec sheet)
-E-brock aluminum heads (lightly ported)
-E-brock RPM Air Gap intake (lightly ported)
-Hooker 1 7/8 headers (by far the biggest disappointment of the build, I paid $700 just so I could beat the crap out of something just to make it fit. I think I will replace them next year)
-AED 850 carb
-MSD full Ignition
-DMR valve covers
-Moroso 8 ltr oil pan
-Billet caps
-ARP studs
-Be cool rad w/fans
I had the motor dyno'd and I was quite please with the results 614HP @ 5500 and 703 lbs @ 3700... Of course these are corrected numbers so I asked the dyno guy to do a couple pulls wit the weather station off and the numbers were still quite respectable 533HP @ 5500 and 610 lbs @ 4000.
As for the drivetrain I kept the TH350 and had it rebuilt with a TCI kit, manual valve body and reverse shift pattern. Originally I was going to have a converter built for this motor but due to time restrains I opted for a B&M 3600 Holeshot, and maybe I'll upgrade that in the future but TBH its working out quite well.
For the rear I went with a Detroit locker and a 3.42 gear set and all being shifted with a B&M Street Bandit.
All things being said I'm quite happy with the turn out, this thing has tons of get up and go yet it has great manners on the highway going to the cottage.
Unfortunately I ran out of money and had to stop where I did (as a matter of fact I went over budget and my line 'o' credit ran out of money) but I really need to do something with the suspension, the wheel hop is so incredibly bad I may need dentures by the end of next summer. I do realize there are some cheap things I can do to clean that up like lower the *** end and straighten out the pinion angle...We'll see what happens. The goal of this car will to be have somewhat of an autocross suspension I've been reading up on an SC&C AFX kit but I know very little about them and other than Hotchkis I'm not sure what else to get... And of course there will be rims and tires and I have a couple of ideas for that too! The good new is that all I need now is money!
Here is a link to the dyno video...you'll notice puffs of smoke coming up from the side. Thats oil coming up from the dip stick tube because i didn't put breathers in the valve covers at this point.

If your car has the stance that it does in your avatar, that might be part of the problem of your wheel hop. What do you have back there for control arms, springs, shocks, etc.?
The TH350 is fine, but I would not expect too much from the B&M converter. You are right in thinking that you need to have one built for your application.I would try PTC or Continental for having a converter made.I have dealt with both, and have had great results.I tried a custom-built TCI,but I split the insides of one, then they made me another one,& I ripped the welds of that one.

Yeah thats how its sitting like in my avatar...It was one of those things that just didn't make the list of things to do because the build took so long I wasn't actually driving the car until late July/August and around here the driving season ends late September/October.
Anyway the one of the previous owners had actually relocated the shock mounts about 2" higher than stock, I guess to get this stance. Everything on the suspension is stock which I guess is another reason why I didn't change anything because I really wanted an entire suspension kit and couldn't afford it and didn't want to spend money on a band aid fix that will just go in the garbage later.
