Model of car from last 6 numbers of the vin on the engine block

I used to know where to find this does anybody have any information on this. I have not been able to find information telling what car a block came out of by the VIN number on the block but I have found it before. Such as Toronado hink start with 6 Cutlass mirror may not start with 1.
If anybody has information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on the year and the assembly plant but the info is in Section 0 of the Chassis Service Manual for each model year. For Lansing-built cars, in SOME years Olds assigned different blocks of sequence numbers to different model line, but this varied by year. For 1968 (the first time Olds started stamping a VIN derivative on the block) sequence numbers 500001-up were used on Toronados, 100001-500000 were used for all other models, so all you can tell is if the engine was FWD or RWD. In 1972, 100001-400000 were used for A-body, 400001-700000 for full size, and 700001-up for Toronado.

For non-Lansing built cars, the third character of the VIN derivative is the assembly plant. Usually A-body and full size cars were built at different plants outside of Lansing.
