Intake gasket/roller lifter problem (can't find the answer)

Yes, Another intake gasket thread... This is a 455 in my 70 W-30

I am running roller lifters so the valley pan will not work. What I did was to cut the lower portion off of the valley pan gasket and just used the top rails as individual gaskets. With having the W-455 intake the PCV valve is in the intake. On the dyno I noticed I had a little oil leaking from the PCV valve hose. I took it off and found that there a a large amount of oil in it. I didn't think that much of it at them time and thought i would just keep an eye on it. I had hoped that the rings were just seating and had extra blow by? Now I found a very slight leak on the intake gasket so I took it off. I have now found that it has been sucking a fair amount of oil through the PCV and has the intake runners coated with oil.

First, Do you think this is because the PCV is open to all the oil flinging around and no valley pan?

Two, What do I do to remedy this?

Roller Lifters vs Intake Gasket

You can actually get the "tin" gasket to go with the rollers, not a real big deal but takes some patience!

Done a couple now using the stock setup, both had to be 100% stock-appearing, and both run fine.

We also ran into an issue with the Eagle H-beam rods, they didn't clear the block at the lower cyl bores! Also not a big deal, but an issue!

Both are full roller units, lifters and rockers, with the stock valve covers, stock C./I. intake, stock exhaust's, and Q-jet.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Here's a shot of one gasket fitted and ready to install and one of the finished build.

Does the valve cover have a baffle over the PCV? If not, that could explain all the oil in it.

The PCV goes into the intake manifold on the W-455 intake and both covers have breathers. I have no valley tray and I think that is the problem.

Thanks, I wonder if there is enough room that it could be cut on 3 sides and bend a tab out but still have it attached at the top. Like a little hat? Just thinking that it may help the return oil from the heads from running into the holes that are cut and could run to the front or back better.
What sealer do you use on the intake ports?

I had several emails and PMs on this and it all helped very much. I also talked to the machine shop and explained this to them. I ran this by him and he said this will work perfect. His only recommendation was to use "The Right Stuff" to bond it together. I took the manifold to work today and crudely fabbed up this baffle.

Not exactly what I wanted to do on an early 70 W-455 intake but that is what I get for wanting rollers. After my first drive I am sure this will no longer bother me

Thanks for all the support on this. I feel this will solve the problem.

Why did you put a hole in the baffle ?
Are you going to use the tin gasket intake gasket or use the composition gasket and silicone on the end rails?

The baffle is the best way, just not sure of the hole in it.

lol, The hole was already in the piece of aluminum I picked up and used. Has no purpous at all. I Plan to cut the top rails off of a valley tray and use them. My block was decked to 0 and heads milled slightly but nothing taken off the intake side of the heads. I was wanting the thinnest gasket I could get. Should i go to the other style gasket? I never had any trouble out of the pan gaskets. Do the fiber gaskets require sealer around the intake ports?

Edit.. Just notices i did not finish my thought above. The lol is because a guy at work ask if that was to let oil drail easier. I flipped the intake over and ask where the hole is located now? Most of the guys at work were poking fun at him for a while over it.

No, I still use RTV around the water ports though.
