First timer here and asking if these gaps between the block and Intake are ok or if they seem to be too big. I have the head-to-Intake gaskets in place (dry). I also have Intake bolts on the four corners to ensure alignment. Is so, then I plan to use a bead of black RTV across them.

That looks to be a normal gap that will close a little when the intake is torqued down. RTV is the approved method according to Ebrock.

 

Ok being my first time that's what I was hoping to hear. Many thanks to you and the ClassicOlds community.

 

Two bits of advice. Use Permatex Ultra Black (I got the stuff in the aerosol can) and be sure to make the bead extra tall. You'll be hating life if you don't make the bead tall enough and find an oil leak after everything is torqued down.

Do NOT ask my how I know this...

 

Also put a bead around water connection where the intake gasket and heads mate both sides on install. Don't ask what happened to me the first time i didn't do that.

Where the rubber gasket would seat use a punch across the top to give the sealant something to hold on and let set over night.

 

^^ X2 on punch suggestion. Will help keep the silicone in place.

 

Has anyone tried to seal a small leak in the rear gap after the manifold is installed?

 

Yes and i got it to seal. I used carb cleaner to clean the area. I then went with a very wide seal coat and thick. X3 on the punch method.
