Hey guys im new to the site and im sure this is a question that you guys probably get alot.........i was just wondering with these specs that i have, how much horsepower would u think i have?
455 .30 over
holley 750 dbl pumper
roller rocker arms
edelbrock intake
flowmasters
headers
big radiator

 

Thats a little short on specs there.............Ill guess 350HP......

 

What cam and heads? That will help.

 

There is really no way to tell, not knowing all the specs, and the owners tuning abilities.
It still will add up to a meaningless number.
The only way to gauge output, is to line them up at a dragstrip.
ET can convert to horsepower at THE WHEELS only.
Tons of 14 second jockey's say "it has 500 hp", which it does not. If he tuned it up, changed the jets, advanced the timing, and blocked the heat risers, he may find 50 more.
It takes 350 HP at the wheels to run 12 flat (which is around 425 at the crankshaft-much is soaked up by the transmission).
A 13 second car will scare most people.

those are my specs and everything else is stock. My next moves would probably be a stroker cam with a big lift and some ported heads, what you guys think, and what am i missing

What year 455? The cam and heads on every 455 do not have the same specs. Knowing the year will give responders a better chance (of course this assumes the motor is all original with no non-orginal parts installed inside the motor). You will also have to know these facts in order to get an accurate assesment of HP.

 

I think you're what you're missing might be everyones' point, not enough info, too general of a question with the info given.

Not yet. Still hope too. I have put about 1500 miles on the car since the build so shes ready.

To OP if you look up stock specs on your year/model add 20 HP for exhaust you'd be close. My guess ?

 

Did you finish the 455 with the Erson roller?

 

IceMan, unless you plan on racing your Olds I think you will be happy with a mild steet cam. No need to count horsepower. Our Olds engines have plenty to serve when needed.

 

I have a very similar setup, 71 455 30 over 9:1 comp, mild cam, torker manifold, 750dp. When it was fresh it ran in the hi 13s about 350hp

 

All the parts are in my garage. Just need to send the block out and get it done. Life and work got in the way of this project hope to soon have it back on track

 

i think my 455 is a 1975 and according to the shop im at least a 10:1 compression ratio????
forgot to mention i have a chevy 12 bolt with a 3:73 posi and a turbo 400 with shift kit.
Everything inside the engine are all new parts, the only difference i really see in the build sheet above is in the "block parts" section where his bearings and pistons are all high performance im not sure if my parts are or if there just stock

Unfortunately, many act like wild animals, even in a 15 second car.

Ditch the double pumper unless you're going with a real loose converter. Or manual trans. Otherwise I think you'll be happier with a vacuum secondary or even a performance built Q-jet.

 

Check out the February 1999 edition of CAR CRAFT for an article called Old man from San Diego.
He ran 13.60's with a stock smog mid 70's 455 in a 65 Cutlass, 3.08 gear.
It's inspirational.
Spend your money which ever way you deem appropriate.
I estimate 250 hp at this point.
