heres a really good reason you should check to make sure your header bolts are tight

I took my car to the mechanic to have new header gaskets put on. When i got my car back it sounded like it had a spun bearing. So i got upset with the mechanic and had tons of witnesses saying he was out hot rodding my car. So i said some pretty nasty stuff and brought my car home and started tearing it down. First taking valve covers off, because mechanic said he thought oil pump went out. So i pulled covers and it was oiling just fine. A couple different mechanics looked at it and told me was rear main crank bearing or cam bearing. Then i thought noise was coming from tranny. So i jacked car up and seen that the flex plate does look a lil bent and started to procede to take tranny out yesterday. Then my buddy jerry asked when the noise started and i told him right after header gaskets where replaced. He said well lets check header bolts to see if tight, and they where all loose. Other mechanic must have put in just finger tight, and forgot to tighten. So he tightened them and wow no noise! Super cheap fix, so make sure your header bolts are tight. All this almost cost me pulling my motor out and being out money. When all along it was loose header bolts. lol So just some advice for you guys to save some money. Im glad i didnt pull motor and sell it, cause i was fed up. So good luck to you guys.

I don't have headers?
I am out of breath after reading your post though.

Glad you found out what was wrong, it would of never occured to me that the last thing done to the car before it messed up could be the problem?
Thanks for the heads up.

Next time do yourself a big favor and call your buddy Jerry first.

Well, eventually you would have gotten to the headers anyway before the engine could have come out.

Good story pointing out there are seldom coincidences. That post also is a record on this forum for the longest single sentence, with zero capitalization or punctuation lol. Kidding aside, glad you posted your experience.

Same thoughts here. I'll need to quit smoking just to keep up with posts like this one.

It wasn't until I read this that I realized I hadn't breathed the entire time I was reading. Then I looked and there is no punctuation, so I guess I never took the time to stop. I never realized that happens when you're reading in your head

I was thinking about getting a set of locking header bolts for my 71 98.

Good to hear that you figured out the problem.
