Anyone viewing right now that knows how much torque to put on the head bolts? Aluminum edelbrock heads, ARP bolts, ARP assembly lube on threads, 455.

 

The head bolt torque is 85 ft/lbs for 7/16" bolts and 90 ft/lbs for 1/2" bolts
Torque head bolts in 3 even increments starting in the center and work out towards ends top to bottom then left side bottom to top the right side top to bottom the left side bottom to top the right side top to bottom. Re-torque is recommended after initial warm up and cool down

 

does it matter that these are aluminum heads? I thought i had heard once that the torque was a lot lower, like 60 or 70 pounds? I cant remember when i put them down the last time. i'm tired of wrenching tonight anyway. I can always check with Mondello tomorrow. Thanks for the sequence.

 

go to the ARP website to get the specs. Their bolts are higher grade than stock, and their lube is a lot more slippery. the former means more torque, and the latter means a lot less torque for the correct clamping load.

The information is right off of the Edelbrock Install sheet that came with my heads with ARP bolts. If you want I will scan the sheet and send it to you

 

no thats not necessary. I keep getting different specs. I called ARP and they said 70. I called Mondello (I purchased all of the parts from them) and junior said 90. I called Edelbrock and they said 105 on the top row and 95 on the bottom with their bolt kit. The machinist that prepped the block says 70. That is what i did the first time and blew that gasket at 12 o'clock over the number 8 hole. I don't want to do that again. I will take your advice and twist them down to 85 as they are 7/16 ARP high performance (not pro series) bolts (not studs). I really appreciate your help.
