Good deal

Well I answered an ad for a 66 Toro engine for $150. I didn't ask about casting numbers or anything, figured it should be a 425 and for a $150, it didn't matter too much. I just wanted a big block to replace the 330 in my car. Well I drove two hours to pick it up, I didn't ask for pictures either, but when I saw the blue color I thought something was different. I was expecting a red color, could be wrong with red but anyway when I noticed the "E" on the head I figured a 455?
Well to make a long story short, yes a 1970 455 with a 66 425 intake. The 425 would have been nice but maybe I got a better deal getting the 455. The seller didn't know the difference. I will rebuild it and drop it in my 442. I guess it was dumb luck I got this.

Great! Like you said, the $150 price made it "who cares what it is". Grab it, run, then sort it out.

I'll add that I did mention to him that it wasn't a 425 but a 455 and he asked if I still wanted it. In the beginning of this thread I may have made it sound like I pulled the wool over his eyes which I didn't. Anyway he has another listing in "Craig's list" for 3 66 Toronado projects, he said he has ton's of Toronado parts for sale because he is losing his storage. He is in Maryland, don't know if anyone is looking for Toronado stuff. I'll have to advertise my engine stuff I don't need. I'll post his ad in the wanted ads.

It has the Toro exhaust and oil pan so it's probably from a 1970 Toronado. I had one from a 70 Toronado GT once, it was a 390 HP engine. (if I recall HP #'s correct) The heads were big valved E's. Nice deal, maybe you should go back and snag a couple more off him. Ken

Since Olds64 isn't up yet, I'll quote him.

Like an Ethiopian on a Big Mac!
Good score, worth more than what you paid.
The cars are even harder to find.

Since my blue car won't be finished for awhile, this engine will replace the 330 in the ivory car. I was going to put the 400 I have in but I'll just put it away. I don't have the correct heads yet. Gee I get to use the low profile Edelbrock dual quad manifold with the Carter comp series 750's that I've had for years. A bigger cam, upgraded ignition etc. Should be nice as long as the engine doesn't drown in gas.

Good score grab it. It looks to be a 70 because of the E heads. But they could have been changed out at some point. Still a good deal

Oh yeah, I grabbed it, it's half torn apart already. Pretty sure it's a 70, it does have a 66 425 Toro intake. The block vin starts with 30M and the number on the oil filler tube starts with "0". The seller said he pulled it from a 66 Toro, original engine must have been blown.

Well I just had to dress it up a little. Got to remove that oil filter. I also confirmed it's not a big valve engine. Anybody tell if those pistons are high ,low or in between compression. Thanks.

Those are the 10.25 pistons. The 9.0 pistons have a U shaped notch instead of the V shaped one you have.
