Gear drive timing.

Just curious if anyone has any experiences with gear drive timing as opposed to timing chain?

I found this kit for the Olds 455. I'm not thinking about replacing my timing chain, just putting the question out there. As I recall a gear driven cam makes a sweet, although loud, whirring mechanical noise. I'm guessing there would be no issues with a chain wearing out. Would gear driven suit higher HP builds or higher rev's?

What are the pro's v con's of both setups? Interested in your thoughts, opinions.

The timing nor the procedure changes with the gear drive. Yes some do sing a pretty tune. They are pretty accurate and eliminate the issues associated with chain stretch.

They sound like a blower. I think I would get tired of it. I guess it depends on the car.

If your running massive spring pressures it could make cam timing and ignition timing more consistent. BUT gear drives can also induce unwanted harmonics. I wouldn't waste the time or money on it. I guess it would be neat at the car shows because those guys think a gear drive is just awesome and only used on megga HP builds.
