Flowtech

First I'm looking for something that fits that won't hang low!!!! and not hit stuff

Tried a few

Dick m
Flow

Who has something that will fit
Motor mount are new and correct
Brake lines relocate
455 1972 cutlass

Now the rant!

Hello olds guys have a question about headers from flowtech,

I recently purchased a set of headers from summit racing who's a distributor for flowtech. When I received my headers one tube was bent/smashed/ i.e. Hammered from the factory.

Summit gladly exchange them how every same problem with second set.
I'm curious as why? My old set that was purchased a few years back dose not have this ugly bent/hammer tube and they fit not touching anything.

Has anyone one else had this recent problem. See photo

Persuading (dimpling) headers is generally a part of the install with inexpensive headers. Hookers are known to hang low, Hedmans not so much. You can try American Racing Headers or Kooks.

Since ARH was mentioned here are a few shots of my ARH headers on my 66. They fit beautiful except for one tube. It was a little close to the block but I massaged it for a better fit. I'm using a Canton oil pan and the headers are slightly higher than the bottom of the pan. You're going to pay a lot for this type of fitment and because they are stainless.

I too have a few sets of ARHeaders both the 1-7/8" and 2" both fit well. For your mild setup I would do the 1-7/8" with the 3" collector. I would also add the 02 bungs in case you should need them down the road. They do not come with collector flanges unless you specify you want them. Here are a few pictures of the 2" installed. The collectors are higher than the oil and transmission pans. You will also need the 9510 powermaster starter with the ARHeaders.

My 2 chambers bark loud!

I don't know what a MSD starter is!But the ARH headers were designed for Power Master 9510. If you try anything else you may have a problem. I love my 2inchx3 1/2 ARH headers. My buddy has a set on order right now after checking fitment on my 1970 442. They told him 15 working days.

I'm going to coat mine eventually. Stainless will not stay looking like the pics posted. It will turn blue and a copper reddish like color. It doesn't hurt anything so to each his own.

I plan to use V band clamps on the collector and maybe some other spots but that is to be determined later. I found some inexpensive clamps through Summit that look pretty sturdy.

Not hijacking. But I have kooks headers for a 71 Cutlass S. They are bare metal. Should I get coated now. Or will they need to be dented for fitment. ??

don't know. I've tried a set of used Dick miller headers would not fit have to put many dents to fit. i sent a pic of the headers to Dick miller he just said there are a couple of variations of the header could not tell me much!

You up would think if there making them would have done ideal of what they are. I guess could bought pair from him, didn't seem like he wanted to help so I went to ARH still want on them to ship.

You up will have to try those kooks to see if they fit. You have any picks.

You probably need to test fit them first to know for sure if they will need to be clearanced or not. From what I've experienced the old Kooks are nearly identical to the ARHeaders so I would bet they fit perfectly without any modifications. Here is an old set of Kooks I had ARHeaders replace the standard collectors with the merge collectors.

Yeah I'm hoping they fit without mods. I want to get them coated before hand. I'm going to. Be running my engine on a test stand way before it goes in the car. But I'd rather not dent them after coated. Just wanna see if anyone runs kooks and knows this

They have to go in at the same time. Header needs to be in position completely loose as you work the starter into position and bolt the starter down.

So I won't have a pic till Monday. The header is installed with starter the only way it would go in without interference was to reposition starter clock! Starter motor was hitting second tube! Don't know if this will effect starter rotation....don't think it will any comments or has any else had this problem
