I would think the sleeve refers to the steel sleeve that is pressed onto the harmonic balancer to correct worn grooves from leaking oil. I have used many of them in the past and when installed correctly, they work great.

I agree with edzolz. They make up for the groove you find in the balancer from rubbing the seal. But the photos show gaskets for 2 different engines. (generic pics?)
I have used the sleeves for many different types of seals. CR seals called them speedy sleeves.

So you to pull the harmonic balancer off to see if you need the seal?

The top pic has a Chevy fuel pump gasket (or possibly a Ford) and I don't recognize anything else.
The bottom pic is for an Olds

Didn't we just have this discussion in another thread? If the motor is sound, there's nothing wrong with replacing just the cam and lifters. This is done frequently.

Back to the O.P.'s original question, the upper gasket set doesn't fit an Olds motor. Unfortunately, if you Google the FelPro part number (TCS13417), even FelPro claims this fits an Olds diesel. They would be wrong. TCS45270 is the correct timing cover gasket set for EVERY 1964-1990 Olds V8 made (as always, excepting the 1964 394 motors).

The "sleeve and seal" means that the kit includes the thin stainless steel repair sleeve that slides over the balancer to cover any grooves that might have been cut by the front main seal. You want this.

If you haven't ever installed the sleeve, you may want to get suggestions on doing it.

I am answering this on 2 threads.
Instruction for sleeve here. http://www.skf.com/binary/12-61918/TT08_021.pdf
The only other thing I do is chill the dampner and heat the sleeve on a light bulb then install.

I also disagree, I have changed cams many times and some times multiple times a season.
