This explains the overheating

Looks normal to me, the gaskets have various sized restricting holes, to make sure all of the block and heads get proper coolant flow.
Having said that, it does look like the block could use a thorough flushing.

Actually now I’ve taken a closer look I have to agree with everyone- the head gasket holes where coolant is unrestricted are clear. It doesn’t explain the overheating at all.
As as far as I can tell there’s no evidence of a head gasket leak so maybe there’s a cracked head. This is driving me nuts.

Check the block for warped decks while the heads are off.
What were the overheating symptoms?. Did it overheat because the gaskets were bad, or did the gaskets let go because of overheating?.
Let us know, plenty of first class help and knowledge here, but the more information you give us, the better everyone can help.
