engine temp with aluminum heads
I always found my Oldsmobile big blocks ran well at those temperatures and if you can keep them at that during the summer the motor will last and run so much better. I have a long way to go on my 69 and I am getting a little discouraged sometimes at how bad my car has gotten, I just let it sit because I was unable to drive it or work on it and man I have been finding alot of rust and problems. It was a rust free car when i bought it 32 years ago and when I restored it in 88 it was perfect no rust still and I used all the good stuff. Didnt last tho!
My 69 was rust free also in 82,if I didn't have a garage for it I would have sold it because I think it would have had rust issue sitting outside.Being in a garage it still developed some rust but to a minimum,so I think, there's always more when you start to fix it.
I painted it with zinc oxide primer and I took in down to the bare metal and used an acid etching primer/sealer then virtually gallons of primer and sanded it smooth and the used lacquer with clear coat and I kept it in a garage until 2001 and in 11 years time it just sat outside and man do I have a job now. But I will get it done. Cant wait to drive it again.
You would think that all that would make a difference. You know all that moisture ya see on the cars in the morning...that's what gets em,Gotta keep them moving, keep the air flowing. Condensation, humidity, not good. Nice that you still have the passion, gives you something to look forward to,and yes you will get it done!!
