Engine paint ?
Hi guys, what engine paint can I use that wont burn off of a 455 Olds engine with factory cast iron heads and cast iron Intake manifold ?
I got hold of a tin of POR15 Engine Enamel but this now says on tin only good up to 350F. (I'm sure it used to say up to 1200F)
Anyway,I thought the exhaust crossover part of the intake and exhaust port areas of heads would get hotter than 350F so emailed POR.
They replied that their Engine enamel is indeed only good up to 350F and would burn off of these areas on 455Olds,455Pontiac and 440Mopar engines that they say reach over 450F. I'm assuming also other 350 and 403Olds and Pontiac and Mopar engines too.
So basically they only recommend I use their POR15 engine enamel (one tin does a whole engine,NOT) for the block, sump, waterpump etc.
So what do I paint the heads and intake with ?
Had hoped to paint whole engine same colour.
What do you guys use that doesn't burn off ?

I used bill hirsch engine paint- I painted the engine over two seasons ago. The paint has not burned off my intake. I purposely got some overspray on the exhaust manifold to replicate the factory, and it is still on exhaust manifold. Check them out, read their write up about their engine paints.

I used PPG paint with a clearcoat, the paint hasn't burn off but has chipped and discolored in places. I had the block, intake, heads, etc bead-blasted and cleaned with lots of lacquer thinner and sprayed with a good PPG epoxy primer. These are aluminum heads, pretty sure nothing will stick and not burn on cast iron.

I used Bill Hirsch - picked it up from Bill personally over in Newark.
It has discolored over the crossover passage and near the edges of the heads next to the exhaust manifolds, but it has not literally burned off yet, though I fully expect it to one day.

Thanks for the replies guys. That Bill Hirsch paint looks good, don't think anyone stocks it over here in the UK though.
Think i'll use what I already have as it seems most of these paints will burn off anyway
