Engine decode ?

I've got a chance to buy a '73 Delta 98, (mainly for the engine/trans). I asked the seller to get the number from the pad in front of the intake and the casting number from the heads. He came back with, 396021 H and C F 0 on the heads. I've researched and haven't found the "H" suffix anywhere much less the F or 0 on the heads. It's claimed to be a 4bbl car.
I haven't been able to get to the car and get the # off the block pad.

That being said, if the engine/car are true. Would this be a good swap into my '70 CS with currently a 350?
I'll be making the trip to put eyes on it later this week. What might I hone in on to look for?

Appreciate any advice, K. Lee

K Lee, the engine number tells us its a 455, in 1973 it would have J heads. Lower compression than your 350 but I'd consider it still an upgrade if the price isn't too high. Here's an old thread that has lots of photos to help key out engines and parts. Let us know if any other questions come up. John

What looks like CFO on the heads is actually CFD - for Central Foundry Division.

Well today I finally got to "clap eyes" on the car/engine in question.

It is a !973 Delta 98, 4.door, 455/4bbl/TH400.
Block # 338021 F
Heads: J casting
EGR valve
I took a pass, just too many negatives for me.
For the big car guys it appears to to be complete if you might need some parts. It's located in Myrtle Beach,S.C.

2blu442 you are dead on, Thanks.
