The car I’m building will be a hot rod, not anything close to a daily driver. The whether here in California is usually warm. The car will have Drag Radials on it.

I don’t think having an electric choke is necessary.

Is there a proper way to remove the electric choke assembly from a Holley carb? Or any details to be aware of.

 

Its there why not use it, removing it won't gain any HP.

 

^^^This. If the choke is working properly, you'll never know it's there. And yes, even in SoCal you want to use a choke. The alternative is washing the cylinders down with gas when starting, which isn't exactly the best thing for engine longevity.

 

Wouldn't removing the choke lean out the mixture?

 

Yeah, so you have to pump the accelerator vigorously to start the car, and that liquid gasoline runs down the cylinder walls and washes off the oil on a cold start. And by "cold start" I mean coolant not at operating temp. I don't mean air temp at 20 below.
