EBay kits
It all depends on what you're after. You might get all the parts for a few dollars less than from a reputable source, but there is a lot involved with putting all those parts together. There are lots of little things you need to know and check. Are you having machine work done? Will the parts fit after that? Just a "hone, rings, and bearings" rebuild? Performance rebuild? Are you comfortable assembling the parts to make it reliable?
You need to know the level of parts needed for your rebuild and the expectations of the end result. If you are not comfortable with all of the decisions you will have to make as the rebuild progresses, it might not be a good deal at all. You might be better off spending the money with a machinist/builder sourcing the parts and putting them together for you. Youtube and ClassicOldsmobile are you friends!

super,
Just like everything else in this world ...... you get what you pay for. Some of the kits show all name brand parts. If that is actually what you get then they should be fine.
But a lot of them are "no name" or "white box" parts of unknown quality. Rebuilding an engine is a LOT of work and you sure dont want to have to do it twice because you saved a few dollars up front.
You might want to check with your machine shop and see what they can get parts for. I can get stock type rebuild kits with good parts in them and sell them for very close to the same price as some of the e-bay stuff. If I am getting all of the machine work on a build I dont need to make a million dollars on the parts but a little profit always helps.
