Ebay--455 Edelbrock Performer. It's a MESS!
Ebay--455 Edelbrock Performer. It's a MESS!
I just picked up an Edelbrock Performer 2151 455 Aluminum Intake Manifold on Ebay. The thing is a mess. It was painted in the past and the silver paint is peeling. Carb bolt holes questionable and probably stripped. Couple of questions regarding repair and prep:
1. What is the best way to clean the thing up? Removal of the peeling silver paint? Blast it? Chemical treatment? Paint remover?
2. Best way to handle carb bolt holes stripped out?
Thank you.

The manifold can be chemically or mechanically stripped, your choice. Just make sure you tape over the ports and carb pad.
First you need to determine if they are indeed stripped. Heli-coils work very well.

I tried to sell you a like new one. That is what you ask for in your wanted add. A very nice clean one with no stripped threads never painted. Now you complain about what you bought.Go figure i am confused.

2. Best way to handle carb bolt holes stripped out?
Heli-coil or time sert would be your only option, glass bead is the best to bring out a nice new look.
Sounds like you would have been better off buying Neeley's intake.
I don't know why guys go to E-Bay to purchase, why not buy from the guys here on CO?
Anyway good luck with your intake
Eric
