E Head
E Head
I saw a local ad with E heads for sale. The fellow says there are no cracks but they have not been magnafluxed. How do these look? What do you think these would go for...ballpark . I might buy them but thought I'd ask first. Thanks.
The ad says:
Casting Number 403 686 CFD
One head stamped 209 other 217
Purchased these in mid 80's off a guy rebuilding his motor along with other parts for my 442 as spares,
I believe his car was a 70 or 71 with a 455 Olds motor.
Heads are not rebuilt, been stored indoors.
My car is long gone, maybe someone can use these heads.

1970 castings, it looks like they may be big valves but my eyes are not calibrated well enough to say for sure
If I were looking for a set and these don't have any visible cracks but hadn't been magged yet I'd go as high as $100 but would be more comfortable at $75 If they did have the 2.07 intake valves I may add another $25 to that price, again if I was needing a set like this. That's my thoughts.

Those valves are real close, from your very clear pic's, I think they are big valve. The coat of late model blue paint, and the Fel-pro blue gasket remains, tells me they have been pulled off at least one time previous.
I see no shims, and the heads have not been surfaced, so I do not think they have been apart. No indications of trauma, or sunken valves.
Being that they are a 1970 only casting, if you confirm the big valve, I think that $150 would be tops. Of course you want to get them for less.

Thanks guys. The owner is asking $100 for them. I'll go check them out tomorrow. I have "C" heads now on my 455 but will be doing some engine work over the winter. Might buy these anyway just to have. Thanks for the input.
