Hi All - I have a 71 Cutlass Supreme conv.. I am swapping the stock 350 to a 1970 455 W30 motor. I was thinking of using Doug's Headers, but the Doug's website says their headers fit 442's, Cutlasses and Vista Cruisers. But not Cutlass Supreme's. I called Petronix and the guy told me it was because of the box frame. This made no sense to me, I can't see what the difference should be. After all, they made the 442 in a convertible.

Last 455 I built I used Hooker's but have heard the Doug's were better?

Any thoughts - any experiences?

First, the 442 convert and the Supreme convert use exactly the same frame (by part number). Second, the part of the frame forward of the firewall is EXACTLY the same on non-convertibles as on convertibles. The boxed portion that's different is the side rails under the rocker panels. If this part of the frame is causing a fitment problem with your headers, those are VERY long header tubes...

Ignore any footnotes in header ads. Why the header manufacturers perpetuate this bad info is a mystery. I have personally tried to correct several header manufacturers and only get form letters blowing me off.

 

Hey Joe - thanks for the reply - confirms my feelings. I truthfully got the impression the guy was reading off some sheet and didn't really know what he was talking about. Any thoughts on header brands, Doug's versus Hookers?

I have those headers on my 70, had another 70 had them also, and my son has a set on a SS chevelle. They are great headers for the money. Mine are there reagular headers, and look great after 5 years. My son ordered his coated, and they really look nice.

 

I have only heard good things about Doug's Headers. I am considering using them on my 71 98.
