Dipstick tube removal
Dipstick tube removal
Well after trying to get a new dipstick into the 455 and having no luck i pulled the exhaust manifold and found the dipstick tube broke off at the block .
It is still visible outside of the edge of the block so I'm going to try to get it to break loose with a lag bolt .
Anymore ideas how to get this out of the block?

Was thinking a lag bolt would be a better fit because of the two ribs in the stem of the tube I want to do it right the first time to avoid having to drop the oil pan.
I am glad I can still see some of the tube protruding from the block its just not enough to grip onto with vise grips. .
Just go to a local body shop and ask them if you rent or borrow a dent puller. They are old school because of the weld on studs on newer pullers but I bet you can find one. Yes that's how they work, the screw goes in the end of the puller.
Correctly-sized sheet metal screw and slide hammer are the only way. Since I've had to do this more than once, I've made up a small tool by welding the sheet metal screw head-to-head with a bolt that fits my slide hammer.
15mm deepwell socket and a lag screw
This happened to me recently with a 350 block. i used a 15mm 3/8" deepwell socket / washer and a lag screw with a 10mm head. Ran the lag screw through the socket with the washer on the end. Found a lag screw that was slightly larger than the broken off tube and would extend out of the bottom of the socket about 3/4 - 1".
I was able to place the socket on the small flat landing where the dipstick tube goes into the block and thread in the screw. With a small ratchet you can tighten the screw against the socket through-hole and the washer bottoms out against the socket drawing the tube out of the block.
I was able to do it without pulling the headers even. Worked like a charm, costs nothing.

I have no suggestions I just wanted to comment on your username.
If I am correct on its origin we have the same birth year and taste in music.
If I'm wrong I'd love to know how you came up with it.
It is a screenname I came up with on the fly one day I was born in 63 and King Diamond is one of my all time favorite musicians.
The 69 is just my dirty mind lol .
