what's a worthy setup for keeping my engine cooler than the stock setup ???it works fine now just wanting to upgrade it

Stock is fine. But you could try a lower temp thermostat. You could try a high flow water pump. Imo it's over kill if you engine is stone stock then no need. I run the water pump for cars with a towing package so it's considered a hd water pump. Temp drop was very small not work the 45 is spent.

meh i'll just do a flush then..and throw a 180 on it. i've jetted the carb to let the secondaries open fully and a few minor other things but mostly stock...

I'll just say this when I lowerd my t stat from a stock 190 to 165 the cap that was on there was not sufficent enough to hold the psi. Don't remember why but a 16 lb cap worked in my scenario.

ill just go with 180 to be safe =P

Pull the block plugs when you flush it and pull the stat out and force water in from every port just to stir up the settled crud so it comes out. Use a 180* high flow stat and you should be set. No need to go any further for a stock setup. If it works well then let it be!

Yea I'm going to clean the whole system out really well, It's probably never been done, I should have done this when I put in the new water pump when I first bought the car..

Oh btw, is it okay to block off my tranny lines from the radiator and run them to a tranny cooler instead? This way the transmission can stay cooler with its own radiator?

Anything I can do to keep temps down will surely lengthen the life of this car or any car for that matter.

I don't hot rod the car ......but I don't drive like Grandpa either. NO offense to my elders here~!!!!!

A 180 t-stat & a quality aluminum WP should drop the temps a lil' bit as long as everything else is up to snuff.

I've used FlowKooler's in the past & was satisfied.

I would run the transmission cooler line return back through the radiator, every reputable transmission shop I've come across recommends this. the theory behind this is to help keep the transmission at its ideal temperature.
Engines are designed to run around 180 degrees, overcooling can be as bad as running too hot for engine life, and may hurt throttle response if it's too cold.
