Changing oil pan gasket on engine stand

Is it okay, if the oil has been drained, to rotate the engine upside down on an engine stand to make it easier to change the oil pan seal?

Even though the oil is drained, I suppose any residual oil may possibly migrate down to the intake manifold and intake seals. Any issues with that?

Thanks,
Andy

Remove the pan with the engine right side up after its drained, then rotate it and install the clean pan and new gasket.

I actually rotate the engine on it's side on a engine stand. After oil is removed before removing the pan. I do this because you never know what maybe in the pan if it is a unknown. Stuff can migrate where you don't want it to. Remove the pan. Then turn the engine upside down to change the seal.JMO

I wouldnt worry about the oil collecting in the heads and intake manifold. When you turn the engine over right side up the oil will run back into the oil pan. What oil leaks past the rings into the combustion chamber will burn off when the engine is started. It might smoke for a little while, no big deal.

The issue in my opinion is not to turn the engine over until the pan has been removed and cleaned so as the crap left in the bottom of the pan does not contaminate the engine.

I agree that is why i used the word migrate in my post. That also was the reason i said turn motor on it's side after oil was removed to pull the pan.

Maybe I should have quoted Matts post. I agree with yours.
