carb identification
i have an edelbrock carb, 2001 manufacture.... with 1406 0092 stamped on the base front and 8867 cast into the top near fuel inlet. electric choke.
i have ID'd this as a model 1406, dont know what the rest of the numbers mean. best i could find was its a 600 cfm carb. sound right? did they make these in other cfm's? not sure if it has been rebuilt but im guessing no... its in great shape and i have had it for 4 years in a box. can this carb be rebuilt and jetted to something higher than 600cfm?
i also have a carter AFB with 9641s 0502 stamped on the base front and 8822 cast into the top near the fuel inlet. also electric choke.
best i could track down on this is its a model 9641s, again not sure what the rest of the numbers mean. i think, and looking for some help here, its a marine carb. i couldnt find much info on it... i think its an older carb but again in excellent condition and ive had this for several years also. any clues/info on cfm for this one? and again, can it be rebuilt to flow what i need for my 455 build?
both these carbs floats move freely when i tip them over and look to be very rebuildable. both very clean inside and out. i havent made all my decisions on my motor build yet so not sure what ill end up needing for cfm, but am hoping one of these carbs will be usable

actually on the edelbrock at least I think you can increase the cfm. they use the same body but the primary boosters are different sizes to change the cfm. they are just held in with a couple of screws so if you bought a couple of boosters for whichever cfm you could change them and rejet it to what you need. you would have to check with edelbrock to make sure though.
i did some research and turns out no cfm mods to the edelbrock performers. diff sized throttle bodies and venturi
but since my carb is in good shape and was free i think ill do the rebuild on it and try it on my 455 project. if its not big enough then i can pull it and save it for a rainy day... worst case scenario ill have a new 600 cfm carb for 40 bucks and have to buy/rebuild a 750cfm.
im still not able to verify the cfm's of the carter carb i mentioned. any thoughts on this?
thanks

I found out you can change the cfm by changing the boosters but it apparently only works on the 500 to 625. these use the same body and venturi size and change the cfm based on booster used. the 750 uses a bigger venturi bore so based on that if yours is a 625 as stated then thats as big as that one will get. it would be good for a 350 but probably too small for a 455 unless it is really mild.
thanks for the link leadfoot067, thats exactly the info i had looked for! looks like both my carbs are probably gonna be too small to use. maybe ill try some horsetrading on the craigslist
