building a 68 c head 455
i have a 68 c headed steel cranked 455 that i got for 200.00 last fall. i am almost ready to start putting it together and dont know where to start. always had bb chevy. i have a 454 with an ati procharger and have wondered what would be better to put in my 70 cutlass. i still would be able to drive the bb chevy. dynod at 883hp@6200 and 791ftbls@4400 in the car. i had it in my nova before i sold it. i am wanting a good driver that is why im leaning towards the 455 . my car has a 200r4 in it with 2000 stall and an chevelle 8.5 with 4.10s and 28 inch tall tires. can anyone shine some help on me

Engines are engines, but all have their quirks. Here is a list of Olds builds, maybe it can help,

You certainly won't duplicate those numbers in a mild n/a 455, but you can end up with a reliable torque monster that will fry the tires at will.

You will have to make quite a few changes to put the Chevy engine into your Olds. Build an Olds engine and keep your Chevy mill for another project.
If you want a fun driver then I don't suggest anything too radical. Maybe some 9:1 pistons and a decent aftermarket cam. The best place to start is to determine your budget.

You can start by considering doing a blow thru on a Victor intake. If you want to make hp and still have a good daily driver put EFI on it. You an do just about anything you want to do if you get a good aftermarket system.
My 350 Cutlass has Accel EFI on it. Runs awesome. I can help.
Good luck!

i actually have a blow thru on a super victor right now with my 454. i am wanting to save the bb chevy for a vega or nova. wish now i wouldnt have sold my nova. my wife wants this car more than any other we have had. she wants a 70 cuda but i keep trying to talk her out of it. looking to maybe get her in to an sx or 442. she has the money to pretty much get what ever she wants. we looked at a hemi cuda a few weeks ago but i wasnt too happy with the interior. and she needs an auto. she can drive a stick but i dont want her with that kinda power and a 4.11 speed. little too dangerous for someone who drives a z... any more idea on what kinda cam to start out with on the 455?
