Buick 455

Buick 455
I saw on Craigslist a Buick 455 for $900.00. I'm not sure what year a motor it is as of yet or what problems it might have. I have a 1968 Cutlass with a 350. Is a Buick 455 basicly the same as an Olds 455? Will I have any problems bolting it up and swapping over from the 350 to the 455?

The 455 will bolt to your trans but since the engines are NOT basicly the same you will have a good amount of problems especially with belts and pulleys, mounts if they are not supplied. IMO you will also be creating a turd that would be a hard sell to an Olds or Buick guy.

It is a major swap, I just did the opposite, but an Olds in our Skylark. Hated to do it, but I had a great running SBO just sitting there, along with many Olds parts. Anyway, the starter, battery, fuel lines and alt are on different sides, mounts are different. 455 Olds engines are not at all hard to find, look for one or build up your 350.

Not even close. For starters, the Olds distributor is in the back, Buick is in the front. These are two completely different motors with different castings, different bore, different stroke, etc. The only thing they have in common is the distributor cap. Now, since all GM A-body cars have the same frames, installing a Buford in an Olds requires Skylark mounts, brackets, starter, etc. Note that the starter is on the other side of the block, also.
