Best cam choice?
Best cam choice?
I’m looking to build a new motor for my 71 442, it’s a convertible with 455 and a th400 with stock converter and 3:73 posi, my present motor is pretty much stock with the exception of C heads with bronze valve guides and W-30 springs. My cam is a mondello JM20-22, I’m running 10.5:1 forged trs pistons, I built it some 40 years ago and it still runs strong but I’ve noticed my oil pressure drops after the motor warms up, I figured it was due to bearing wear, looking to build a extra block I have and swap it out, at the time I built this motor joe mondello told me that this was the hottest cam I could run in it with auto trans and disc brakes. Does anyone have any suggestions on a cam?
That is the same cam that I used to run, kinda regret not having it anymore, it was great with power brakes and AC. However in today world I sure that there are better camshafts available but I quit following the development of camshafts when I started raising a family. Now they are middle-aged and I'm just not haven't done any research on the topic as the manufacturers have changed.
The 1 thing that I have noticed is back in the day people were willing to share information more easily and today it seems to be a much more guarded information. I think it would be nice to have a chart that would show where today offerings would compare to the old school stuff including the factory camshafts. I just don't know how to get it done.
Edit on this. The cam that I had was the JM 22-25-10 and not the 20-22.

Many people think that 15 lbs at idle is too low. Olds specs is 10lbs per 1k rpm, with I believe 35 as the max. So at 750rpm 7.5 lbs meet specs. Before you rebuild your motor get a really good gauge and measure it and see if it's lower than the specs.
